The Panthers debuted their new Sunrise sweaters on Monday, and Detroit spent the third period wrinkling them. Two Red Wings goals in 45 seconds turned a 2-2 game into a 5-3 loss, and Florida's three-game winning streak is over.

Four games on a Monday, and three of them turned on one short stretch. Colorado scored five straight in Chicago, Boston needed one shootout goal from David Pastrnak, and Dustin Wolf stole two points in San Jose.

Red Wings 5, Panthers 3

Carter Mazur scored his first NHL goal at 5:26 of the first, and Detroit never trailed. Sam Reinhart tied it in the first and Aaron Ekblad tied it again shorthanded in the second.

Then Lars Eller took a high-sticking minor 21 seconds into the third. Justin Faulk scored on the power play at 2:08 and Michael Brandsegg-Nygård made it 4-2 at 2:53. Sam Bennett's tip at 16:40 made it close, and Emmitt Finnie hit the empty net with three seconds left. Daniil Tarasov made 23 saves against his old team.

Pabs has the full recap.

Pabs: Forty-five seconds, at home, in a tie game against a division rival. This group has won enough to know better, and you can't blame the new sweater for a high stick.

Lind's read: The fourth line disappeared once Florida fell behind. Bokondji Imama played 4:28 and Cole Schwindt 4:32 while Seth Jones logged 27:23, per NHL data. That's Maurice shortening the bench to chase, and it got the cats within one.

Sully's chirp: Florida out-hit Detroit 41-19, by our count. Turns out the scoreboard doesn't take hits as payment.

Avalanche 5, Blackhawks 2

Chicago led 2-0 at 7:05 of the first on goals from Wyatt Kaiser and Roman Kantserov. Connor Bedard set up the second, which makes it six straight games with a point for him, by our count.

Then Colorado scored the next five, starting with Nazem Kadri and Jaden Schwartz scoring 26 seconds apart late in the first. Kadri added a power-play goal in the second, and Schwartz got his second with 11 seconds left in the period. Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 21 of 23, and Devon Toews finished it into the empty net.

Lind's read: Chicago is 0-5 on the road and its power play is converting 10.6%, per NHL data. A two-goal lead doesn't survive 60 minutes of that math.

Bruins 3, Golden Knights 2 (SO)

James Hagens and Morgan Geekie gave Boston a 2-0 lead. Geekie's came on the power play after Braeden Bowman took an elbowing major and a game misconduct. Mark Stone and Trevor Connelly answered, and Mitch Marner set up both Vegas goals.

Jeremy Swayman stopped Connelly, Jack Eichel and Marner in the shootout. Pastrnak beat Carter Hart for the only goal of it.

Sully's chirp: Charlie McAvoy took a holding minor in the second, Stone scored on the power play eight seconds later, and McAvoy got two more for abuse of officials on the same whistle. Buddy, I'm begging you, you can't argue a goal off the board.

Flames 2, Sharks 1

Dustin Wolf made 26 saves on 27 shots, and Adam Klapka scored in the first and set up William Stromgren's winner at 9:14 of the third. Sam Dickinson got one back for San Jose with 8:03 left, and that was all Wolf allowed.

Lind's read: Calgary's whole scoring line played under 12 minutes each, per NHL data: Klapka 11:36, Jonathan Castagna 9:53, Stromgren 8:34. Yaroslav Askarov stopped 20 of 22 and sits at .944 over his last five starts, so this one isn't on him.

Three stars of the night

  1. Nazem Kadri, COL. Two goals, one on the power play, as Colorado scored five straight in Chicago.
  2. Dustin Wolf, CGY. 26 saves on 27 shots in a 2-1 win in San Jose.
  3. Justin Faulk, DET. The power-play goal that broke a 2-2 tie in Sunrise, plus an assist.

Lind's number of the night

27:28. That's Moritz Seider's ice time in Sunrise, the most of any skater on Monday, per NHL data. He had two assists, including the pass on Mazur's first NHL goal, and Detroit plays in Tampa tonight on no rest, so the bill for those minutes comes due fast.

By our count: Mitch Marner has a point in 10 straight games, with 15 points in that stretch. Only Connor McDavid's 15-game run is longer right now.

Sully's take of the morning

Look, Mitch Marner is a point-a-game guy again, and he's doing it in a city where nobody boos him on a Tuesday.

Ten straight games with a point, two more assists in Boston, and then Swayman stopped him in the shootout, so Leafs fans get to say "see" about one thing. Grade: A-minus. I'd give him the full A, but he did it in my building.

Tonight

Eleven games, and three of them feature a team on the second night of a back-to-back. Detroit goes from Sunrise to Tampa on no rest for a 7 p.m. ET puck drop, so the Red Wings get both Florida teams in 24 hours, while Vegas visits Pittsburgh and Colorado visits Columbus.

McDavid takes his 15-game point streak into New Jersey at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+ and Hulu, and Carolina, 12-2-2, visits Nashville at 8. The Panthers are off until Chicago visits Sunrise on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. ET on TNT, truTV and HBO Max.
