The CCHA name came back in 2021 and the league behaves like its old self: hard, tight-checking hockey in small northern barns. Minnesota State has been the standard-bearer, with Michigan Tech, Bemidji State, Bowling Green, Ferris State, Lake Superior State, Northern Michigan, St. Thomas and Augustana filling out a conference that punches above its recruiting budget. Goaltending wins games here more than anywhere else in college hockey.
