Ice Breaker: Rantanen beats the Bruins alone, Celebrini wins in Montreal
A hat trick with an overtime winner in Dallas, another OT power-play winner for Celebrini, and Tampa takes Vegas apart on 21 shots.

Eleven games, no Panthers, and Mikko Rantanen beat the Bruins by himself. He tied it twice and then won it on a power play in overtime, which is about as complete a night as a winger can have.
Stars 3, Bruins 2 (OT)
Boston led twice, on goals from Matthew Poitras and James Hagens. Rantanen answered both times, then buried the overtime winner on the power play at 3:52. Jake Oettinger needed only 18 saves.
Sully's chirp: Dallas put 25 shots on Jeremy Swayman and Rantanen scored on three of them. The other 22 were just to keep him awake.
Montreal led 3-1 after two on goals from Nick Suzuki, Juraj Slafkovský and Cole Caufield. Michael Misa and Tyler Toffoli tied it in the third, and Macklin Celebrini, who also scored the opener, won it on an overtime power play.
Lind's read: Celebrini has 14 points in eight games, by our count. He played 23 minutes with six shots, which is franchise-center usage, and he's paying it back.
Lightning 6, Golden Knights 2
Vegas outshot Tampa 34-21 and lost by four. Anthony Cirelli scored twice on two shots, Nikita Kucherov had a goal and two assists, and Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 32 of 34.
Sully's chirp: Carter Hart saw 21 shots and let in six. The slot machines on the Strip pay out less often than that.
Oilers 4, Wild 3 (OT)
Leon Draisaitl scored twice on the power play for a 3-1 lead. Kirill Kaprizov and Ryan Hartman tied it in the third, and Evan Bouchard won it on another overtime power play. Connor McDavid had three assists.
Lind's read: Three of Edmonton's four goals came with the extra man. That unit is running at 31.0 percent by our count, and Minnesota kept feeding it.
Hurricanes 6, Canucks 3
Carolina outshot Vancouver 44-17. Nikolaj Ehlers and Logan Stankoven each had two goals and an assist, and Jackson Blake set up three. Leevi Meriläinen made 38 saves and still gave up five.
Sully's chirp: Nicolas Deslauriers scored twice, including the winner, in under 11 minutes. Somebody check whether that stick has a permit.
Maple Leafs 6, Blue Jackets 2
Columbus outshot Toronto 37-22, and Anthony Stolarz made 35 saves. Easton Cowan scored shorthanded and added two assists, Jack Roslovic and Morgan Rielly had three points each, and Auston Matthews scored the winner.
Lind's read: Toronto's penalty kill sits at 97.4 percent by our count. That plus a goalie stopping 35 is how you win a game you got outshot in by 15.
Kings 5, Capitals 2
Washington led 2-0 late in the first on goals from Ryan Leonard and Cole Hutson. Adrian Kempe and Artemi Panarin scored 31 seconds apart before the intermission. Erik Gustafsson's power-play goal won it.
Sully's chirp: Washington had a two-goal lead with 85 seconds left in the period. Great. Tremendous. It never led again.
Devils 4, Avalanche 3
Luke Evangelista had a goal, an assist and six shots. Declan Chisholm and Arseny Gritsyuk scored, and Jesper Boqvist hit the empty net. Artturi Lehkonen scored twice in the last four minutes to make it close.
Lind's read: New Jersey put 41 shots on Scott Wedgewood. Lehkonen's two late goals stretched his point streak to five games by our count.
Kraken 4, Red Wings 3 (SO)
Seattle led 3-0 after two on goals from Mackie Samoskevich, Ryker Evans and Brandon Montour. Detroit scored three in the third, the last from Alex DeBrincat with 17 seconds left. Bobby McMann won the shootout.
Sully's chirp: Seattle blew a three-goal lead and then won the skills competition. That's a participation trophy with extra steps.
Blues 2, Jets 1
Joel Hofer stopped 32 of 33. Jimmy Snuggerud scored first, Cole Perfetti tied it early in the third, and Philip Broberg won it on a power play.
Lind's read: Broberg played nearly 24 minutes and put six shots on net. When a defenseman leads the attack like that, the Blues don't need much else.
Islanders 3, Ducks 2
Ondrej Palat, Victor Eklund and Simon Holmström all scored in the first, and Ilya Sorokin made 15 saves to hold it.
Sully's chirp: The Ducks managed 17 shots all night. Their best shift was A.J. Greer's fight with Mitchell Chaffee in the second.
Three stars of the night
- Mikko Rantanen, DAL: three goals, including the overtime winner, against Boston.
- Macklin Celebrini, SJS: two goals and an assist, including the overtime winner in Montreal.
- Joel Hofer, STL: 32 saves on 33 shots in a 2-1 win over Winnipeg.
By our count: Connor McDavid has a point in all nine Oilers games this season, 26 points in total. His three assists last night extended the streak.
Lind's number of the night
6-1. That's Carolina's road record by our count, after a 44-17 shot clinic in Vancouver. A team that wins this often away from home isn't relying on its building.
Sully's take of the morning
Look, Boston lost to one Finnish winger in Dallas. That's not a slump, it's a scouting report.
The real hero was in Columbus. Zack MacEwen played about five minutes, fought Erik Gudbranson, and took the instigator and a misconduct. Seventeen penalty minutes in five minutes of ice time. I want that ratio on a banner.
Tonight
Two games. The Panthers are in Ottawa at 7:30 p.m. ET (Scripps in the U.S., Prime in Canada), chasing a fourth straight win. Matthew Tkachuk has a point in eight straight games by our count. Hard Rock has it at -110 each way (21+. Gambling problem? Call 1-800-GAMBLER.).
Philadelphia visits Buffalo at 7:30 on TNT and truTV. Watch Buffalo's penalty kill, which is at 64.5 percent by our count.
