Around college hockey: Michigan wins at 0.1, Augustana takes Columbus
The No. 1 Wolverines needed a review to stay perfect, Augustana and Colorado College swept, and Army stunned Quinnipiac in overtime.

October is when the poll finds out who it was wrong about. Four of last week's top eight lost at least once this weekend, by our count, and the teams that took advantage weren't the usual names. Here's what mattered.
Michigan needed 0.1 seconds to stay perfect
Will Horcoff beat Western Michigan with a tenth of a second left in regulation Friday at Yost, and the goal held up after an offside challenge. Western had tied it 2-2 with a shorthanded goal from William Whitelaw midway through the third. Michigan won 3-2, is 7-0 and has 49 of 50 first-place votes in the USCHO poll.
Kessler's read: A perfect team that needs a replay is still perfect. But Western proved you can drag the Wolverines into a coin flip.
Augustana took Columbus
The Vikings won 3-2 in overtime at Ohio State on Friday, then scored four times in the first period Saturday and hung on 4-3. They're 5-0-1 and moved from 13th to 11th in the poll.
Kessler's read: Augustana isn't a nice story anymore. It's a CCHA team that wins one-goal games on Big Ten ice, and that's a résumé.
Colorado College is back in the top 10
The Tigers beat Air Force 6-2 at Ed Robson Arena on Friday and 4-0 at the Academy on Saturday. That's 10 goals for, two against, and a jump from 12th to ninth.
Kessler's read: The NCHC is the deepest league in the country, and CC just put itself in the conversation inside it.
Army stunned Quinnipiac
Army won 4-3 in overtime in Hamden on Friday. Quinnipiac slid from eighth to 10th.
Kessler's read: That's the upset of the weekend. The Bobcats have a week to fix it, because No. 5 Providence comes to town Saturday.
Michigan State paid for its trip to Durham
New Hampshire won 1-0 on Friday before the Spartans took Saturday 2-1. Michigan State dropped from second to fourth. Wisconsin, 4-0, jumped from sixth to second.
Kessler's read: A split in Durham is a fine weekend. The poll just doesn't grade on a curve.
Denver got the better of Boston College
The Pioneers beat BC 5-2 on Friday and tied 2-2 on Saturday at their homecoming. Denver moved up to third. BC fell out of the poll.
Kessler's read: Denver is 3-2-1 and ranked third, which tells you how much voters trust the program in October. BC needs league points, fast.
This weekend
The marquee game is No. 5 Providence at No. 10 Quinnipiac on Saturday at noon. No. 19 Maine visits No. 14 BU on Friday and Saturday, and Northeastern goes to Boston College for two. Our Hockey East coverage is in The East Side. Michigan's freshman defenseman is the No. 1 name on the NHL's watch list.
Kessler's call: Providence wins in Hamden and stays perfect.
