Forsling and Markstrom added, Gudas off Panthers injury report
Florida faces fresh questions on defense ahead of its next game, while three forwards remain sidelined with previously announced absences.

The Florida Panthers have more to manage on October 23: Gustav Forsling is now day-to-day, Jacob Markstrom has landed on injured reserve, and Radko Gudas is off the injury report. Getting Gudas back out of that picture helps, but I'd put clean defensive exits ahead of offensive ambition while Forsling's availability is uncertain.
Status board
- Gustav Forsling (D) — Day-To-Day — Injury: Upper Body — Timeline: not announced
- Jacob Markstrom (G) — Injured Reserve — Injury: Upper Body — Timeline: not announced
- Brad Marchand (LW) — Injured Reserve — Injury: Leg — Timeline: out 6 weeks as of Oct. 9
- Aleksander Barkov (C) — Injured Reserve — Injury: Lower Body — Timeline: out 6-8 weeks as of Oct. 6
- Jonah Gadjovich (LW) — Injured Reserve — Injury: Upper Body, Surgery — Timeline: not announced
Lineup watch: Defense comes first
Forsling has an upper-body injury, with his day-to-day designation updated October 23. Gudas no longer carries the lower-body designation from the previous report; that doesn't make the two developments a straight swap on defense.
If Forsling misses time, Florida should keep its breakout support tight. That means forwards coming back for short passes rather than leaving a defenseman to force the puck through pressure. My preference is simple: accept a slower exit before accepting a turnover between the circles.
A different question in goal
Markstrom's upper-body injury puts him on injured reserve, with that status updated October 20. That's a separate lineup problem from Forsling's day-to-day availability, and Florida should treat it that way.
For the next game, I'd prioritize protecting the middle over sending an extra skater deep. Whoever gets the net needs clear sightlines and help on rebounds, not a parade of chances from the slot. The answer isn't to stop attacking; it's to stop making the goaltender pay for an unnecessary gamble.
The forward absences still matter
Brad Marchand, Aleksander Barkov and Jonah Gadjovich remain on injured reserve. Marchand's announced timeline remains out six weeks as of October 9; Barkov's remains out six to eight weeks as of October 6. Gadjovich remains sidelined with an upper-body injury and surgery designation.
Those absences make puck management more important, not less. I'd ask the available forwards to shorten their routes back to the puck before asking anyone to replace the missing offense alone.
Pabs' read: Gudas coming off the report is welcome, but it doesn't erase two new concerns. Florida's next-game priority should be connected five-man defense. Make the simple pass available, clear rebounds, and let offense grow from possession rather than forcing it.
