Montreal led Winnipeg 4-0 with 2:39 left in regulation. The Jets scored four times in 2:06, then won it in overtime, and that's the only game anybody will talk about today.

Eleven games, no Panthers. Jason Robertson and Cutter Gauthier got hat tricks, Vancouver and Anaheim fought five times, and Connor McDavid still hasn't had a night off the sheet.

Jets 5, Canadiens 4 (OT)

Owen Beck, Josh Anderson and two Cole Caufield power-play goals put Montreal up 4-0 by 0:46 of the third. Then Tyrel Bauer scored at 17:21, Morgan Barron at 18:03 and Kyle Connor at 19:00 and 19:27, the last one on the power play. Dylan Samberg ended it at 3:30 of overtime.

Lind's read: Winnipeg outshot Montreal 47-22, and Jacob Fowler stopped 42 of them. The Jets are 1-4 over their last five, per NHL data, so this wasn't a team on a roll. It was nearly 28 minutes of Connor and a lot of rubber.

Stars 6, Capitals 5

Robertson scored at 0:23, 3:18 and 5:43 of the second, a natural hat trick in 5:20, and Logan Thompson was gone after four goals on 11 shots. Dallas led 5-1. Washington scored four of the last five, the last from Ryan Leonard at 18:58 of the third, and ran out of time.

Sully's chirp: Dallas was up four and won by one. Jake Oettinger gave up five and got the W, which in Boston we call a moral loss.

Ducks 5, Canucks 4

Gauthier scored twice on the power play and once at even strength, and Beckett Sennecke set up all three for four assists. Anaheim went 3-for-3 with the extra man. Jake DeBrusk scored twice in the third to make it 5-4, and that's as close as it got.

Lind's read: Vancouver is 1-7 at home, per NHL data, and Kevin Lankinen is at .808 on the season after stopping 17 of 22. You can't fight your way out of that, though they tried.

Blue Jackets 7, Avalanche 2

Mathieu Olivier scored 28 seconds in, and Columbus had four on nine shots before Scott Wedgewood came out. Charlie Coyle had two goals and two assists.

Sully's chirp: Wedgewood lasted 27 minutes and made five saves. I've seen goalie interviews last longer.

Devils 4, Oilers 3 (SO)

Jack Hughes scored twice in the second, once on the power play, and set up Connor Brown's goal. Leon Draisaitl tied it on the power play at 1:00 of the third, and Arseny Gritsyuk won the shootout.

Lind's read: McDavid had an assist on Draisaitl's tying goal. By our count he has a point in all 16 games this season, with 40 points, 31 of them assists.

Lightning 4, Red Wings 2

Brayden Point scored twice in the first, once on the power play, and Nikita Kucherov set up both. John Gibson didn't come out for the second after allowing two on 13 shots. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 19 of 21.

Sully's chirp: Detroit pulled Gibson after 20 minutes and Tampa is 7-0 at home. At this point visiting goalies should just bring a book.

Mammoth 3, Maple Leafs 2

Nick Schmaltz won it on the power play at 13:12 of the third. Clayton Keller had three assists, and Mikhail Sergachev's two make it eight straight games with a point, by our count. Jack Roslovic scored both Toronto goals.

Lind's read: Utah went 2-for-3 on the power play and Toronto went 0-for-2. In a one-goal game, that's the whole box score.

Golden Knights 3, Penguins 2

Pittsburgh led 2-1 in the third on goals from Tommy Novak and Rickard Rakell. Trevor Connelly tied it, and Tomas Hertl won it on the power play with 35 seconds left. Mitch Marner set up Hertl's first-period power-play goal, which makes it 11 straight games with a point.

Sully's chirp: The Penguins went 0-for-6 on the power play. Six chances. At some point you're just renting the ice.

Wild 4, Flyers 2 · Predators 4, Hurricanes 1 · Rangers 3, Blues 1

Matt Boldy and Michael McCarron scored 31 seconds apart early, and Minnesota never looked back. Juuse Saros stopped 29 of 30 in Nashville. Dylan Garand stopped 32 of 33 at the Garden, and St. Louis went 0-for-6 on the power play.

Lind's read: Minnesota is 4-0-1 in its last five. Kirill Kaprizov, Quinn Hughes, Boldy and Joel Eriksson Ek all have six-game point streaks, by our count.

Three stars of the night

  1. Jason Robertson, DAL: three goals and an assist, the hat trick in 5:20.
  2. Cutter Gauthier, ANA: three goals, two on the power play, in a 5-4 win.
  3. Charlie Coyle, CBJ: two goals and two assists in a 7-2 rout.

Lind's number of the night

38.0%. That's Anaheim's power play this season, per NHL data, after another 3-for-3 night. Vancouver's penalty kill is at 63.2%, so the Ducks' best play was getting fouled, and the Canucks obliged.

Sully's take of the morning

Vancouver and Anaheim had five fights. Jacob Quillan fought twice by the middle of the second, and Paul Cotter and Sam Colangelo got thrown out after a line brawl at 4:37 of the third. The teams combined for 84 penalty minutes.

Look, the Canucks are 1-7 at home. If the fights counted, they'd be in a playoff spot. Grade: B-plus for effort, F for the goalie.

Tonight

Four games. Chicago visits Sunrise at 7:30 on TNT, truTV and HBO Max, and Florida needs a bounce-back after Monday's loss to Detroit. Connor Bedard brings a six-game point streak, by our count, and the Panthers are -250 at both books.

Ottawa is at Buffalo at 7:30. San Jose visits Los Angeles and Calgary visits Seattle at 10. 21+. Gambling problem? Call 1-800-GAMBLER.
