Carolina's seven-game win streak ended in Calgary, against a team that had won once all season. Devin Cooley made 34 saves to do it, and Kirill Kaprizov scored his 10th goal in nine games in the only other game on a quiet Sunday. The Room's locks for the week are in Sunday's Ferda Room.

Last night

Flames 3, Hurricanes 2

Jesperi Kotkaniemi put Carolina ahead in the second, and then the period's last 90 seconds went sideways. Matvei Gridin tied it for his first of the season, Morgan Frost scored on the power play with 21 seconds left, and Jalen Chatfield answered with four seconds on the clock.

Yegor Sharangovich won it at 15:32 of the third with one of his six shots. Cooley stopped 34 of 36, and Brandon Bussi stopped 31 of 34. Carolina outshot Calgary 36-34 and still went home with nothing, which is how a 1-6 team gets its second win.

Sully's chirp: Seven straight wins, and the streak dies in Calgary against a team that came in 1-6. That's a casino heater ending because you tripped on the carpet on the way to the cashier.

Wild 2, Blue Jackets 1

Danila Yurov opened the scoring late in the first, and Adam Fantilli tied it a minute later. Kaprizov scored the winner on the power play 3:06 into the second. Minnesota outshot Columbus 34-14, so Cam Talbot's 32 saves kept it close, and Jesper Wallstedt only needed 13.

Lind's read: Fourteen shots is tied for the second-fewest by any team this season by our count, behind only San Jose's 13 at Dallas on Oct. 5. Minnesota's power play is at 32.1% per NHL data and Columbus's penalty kill is at 68.0%, so the one goal that decided it was the most predictable thing on the ice.

Three stars of the night

  1. Devin Cooley, CGY: 34 saves on 36 shots.
  2. Kirill Kaprizov, MIN: the power-play winner, his 10th goal.
  3. Morgan Frost, CGY: a goal and an assist.

Lind's number of the night

10. That's Kaprizov's goal total through nine games, and he has a point in six straight per NHL data.

Nobody sustains that pace over 82 games, but the Wild have won two in a row and sit at 6-2-1 with him driving it. He's also averaging 21.5 minutes a night, which is a lot of hockey to ask of your best forward in October.

Sully's take of the morning

Calgary has a goalie controversy, and neither guy is winning it. Dustin Wolf is at .834 through five starts, and Cooley is at .868 even after making 34 saves last night.

Look, I'm happy for the kid. One good night is a start, not a resume. Buddy, I'm begging you, do it twice in a row and then we'll talk.

Pabs' Florida line

Pabs: The Everblades drove up to Orlando and won 5-1, outshooting the Solar Bears 44-18, and Mark Estapa had two goals and an assist. That's 2-0 to start, and they've looked like the team that owns this state below the NHL. Box score.

Tonight

Four games. Colorado (5-2-1) visits Philadelphia (1-6-3) at 7, and Anaheim is at the Rangers at the same time.

The one to watch is San Jose at Toronto at 7:30. The Leafs are 3-4-2 and have one win in their last five by our count, and Macklin Celebrini had three points Saturday. Pittsburgh plays at Utah at 9. The Panthers are off until Wednesday at Ottawa, 7:30 p.m. on Scripps.
