Five CHL grads debuted in week one, and one was a first-rounder
Jiříček, Warren, Trudeau, Bauer and Lombardi all got NHL sweaters, and three of them went in the fourth round or later.

The best part of opening week wasn't a first-overall pick. It was five kids out of the CHL getting their first NHL shifts, and only one of them was a first-rounder.
That's the pipeline doing its real job. The headline picks get the camp hype. The fourth-rounders get the bus rides, and some of them get a sweater anyway.
Adam Jiříček, Blues
The one with the pedigree. The Blues took him 16th overall in 2024, he spent two seasons on the Brantford Bulldogs blue line, and he was named the best defenceman at the 2026 World Juniors.
He played 16:35 in a 4-0 win at Dallas, with two shots and a plus-one. In game two, a 6-1 loss at Colorado, his ice time went up to 19.7 minutes, by our count. A coach doesn't add three minutes to a kid on a night like that unless he trusts him.
Noah Warren, Ducks
Warren went 42nd overall in 2022 after four QMJHL seasons with Gatineau and Victoriaville, then put in two AHL years in San Diego. His first NHL point came right away, an assist on Alex Killorn's goal in a 4-3 win at Vegas.
Then Sunday he played 16.0 minutes against the Panthers, up from 9.6 in his debut, with two shots and two hits. That's a 6.4-minute jump in his second game, by our count. Pabs has the full recap of that one.
William Trudeau, Predators
Trudeau's road is the kind I love. He was an 11th-round QMJHL pick, played three seasons in Charlottetown, and went to Montreal in the fourth round in 2021. The Canadiens traded him to the Rangers, and Nashville claimed him on waivers in September.
He played 12:15 on 12 shifts in a 2-1 win over Dallas. Nobody wrote a song about it. He'll take it.
Tyrel Bauer, Jets
Bauer was a sixth-round pick in 2020 and captained the Seattle Thunderbirds for two seasons. Then he played 214 games for the Manitoba Moose and won the AHL's man-of-the-year award last season.
His NHL career is two games old and he already has 14 penalty minutes in 14.6 minutes of ice time, by our count. Roughly a penalty minute for every minute played. The Jets didn't call him up to run the power play.
Amadeus Lombardi, Devils
Lombardi had a 102-point season with the Flint Firebirds in 2022-23. Detroit drafted him in the fourth round, and he made his debut with New Jersey: 8:03 in a 3-2 overtime win. His second game was a 6-0 loss on Long Island, and his ice time held at 8.2 minutes.
Fun one for the draft nerds: Lombardi went 113th overall in 2022. Trudeau went 113th overall in 2021. Same slot, a year apart, and both got their first NHL sweaters in the same week.
Prospect watch: Jiříček
Rights: St. Louis, first round, 2024. Path: Brantford straight to the Blues' lineup. My call: he isn't going back down. Twenty minutes in a blowout loss is a coach telling you who he plans to keep playing.
My read
Three of these five were picked in the fourth round or later. The AHL years built Bauer and Warren into players a coach could trust in October.
Jiříček is the only one with a long NHL runway already mapped out, but Warren's second-game minutes are the number I'd watch. Ducks coaches don't hand out 16 minutes as a thank-you note.
