Hockey East wanted a better Friday against the ECAC after last weekend's 3-9-1. It got one result worth keeping, from Boston College. By our count, Hockey East went 5-2-1 on Friday, and every game it failed to win came against an ECAC team.

Boston College 2, No. 12 Cornell 0

Avah Sedore made 39 saves for her first shutout of the season, 20 of them in the second period. Cornell outshot BC 39-30 and went 0-for-4 on the power play. Sarah Powers broke it open on a BC power play at 10:44 of the third, and Madelyn Murphy added the empty-netter at 18:34.

BC is 4-1-0 with three straight wins and two straight shutouts. The rematch is at 3 p.m. today at Kelley Rink.

The read: BC won a game it didn't control, which is what a good goalie buys you. Cornell will be better today.

Yale 3, Boston University 2

BU hosted the Women's Ice Breaker for the first time and lost its semifinal at Walter Brown Arena. Yale scored twice in the first period, BU tied it in the second, and Yale won it in the third. Yale came in 0-0-0, so a two-goal first period in somebody else's building was a loud way to open a season.

Yale plays Minnesota State for the title tonight after the Mavericks beat Robert Morris 6-3. BU gets Robert Morris.

"If we're resilient, we're going to really bug a lot of teams," BU coach Tara Watchorn said before the tournament. Today is a good place to start.

The rest of the crossover

Clarkson beat Providence 5-1, and Holy Cross and Dartmouth tied 1-1. Against everybody else, Hockey East was perfect: Northeastern 5, RIT 0; UConn 3, Mercyhurst 1; Merrimack 3, Post 0; UNH 6, Stonehill 0.

The read: the league beats the teams it should and still hasn't solved the Ivies and the North Country. That's still the gap between Hockey East and the ECAC.

No. 1 Ohio State 3, No. 8 Colgate 0

On Wednesday this was Colgate's two straight shutouts against Ohio State's shot volume. The volume won easily. Ohio State outshot the Raiders 40-9, held them to two shots in the first period, and handed Colgate its first loss of the season.

Kaia Malachino scored on the power play, Hilda Svensson added one in the second, and Jocelyn Amos scored shorthanded. Ohio State is 8-1-0, and Colgate is the first team it has held to single-digit shots this season.

Lindenwood's long night in Minneapolis

Eva Filippova made a career-high 68 saves on 73 shots in Lindenwood's 5-2 loss at No. 2 Minnesota. That's a loss on the scoreboard and a highlight reel for her.

The W read: Ohio State is the best team in the country and it isn't close. Hockey East's best chance to change the conversation this afternoon is BC doing it to Cornell twice.
