The Flyers are 0-2-2, and Joseph Woll earned both points

Philadelphia has been outshot 158-77 through four games, its power play is 0-for-11 and the goalie is the only one doing his job.

Look, the Flyers have two points in four games, and they should send Joseph Woll a fruit basket for both of them.

Philadelphia is 0-2-2 with a goal differential of minus-12, by our count the worst in the Eastern Conference. People are calling them the worst team in the league, and I want to be fair to Philly here: they've been worse than that.

The number

158-77. That's the shot count against the Flyers through four games, by our count. They've been outshot by 81 in four nights. That's not a hockey team. That's a carnival shooting gallery with expensive parking.

Here's the tour. Pittsburgh hung seven on them in the home opener and outshot them 38-19. New Jersey outshot them 44-25 and needed Jack Hughes in overtime to finish it. Carolina outshot them 40-18, and Shayne Gostisbehere won it on a power play in overtime. A former Flyer. In Philly. That's not a loss, that's a custody hearing.

Then Tampa Bay outshot them 36-15 and won 4-1 without breaking a sweat in the Florida humidity. Fifteen shots in a full game. I've seen more shots taken in a South Philly bar on a Tuesday, and those customers were at least trying.

Grade: F. F-minus stays reserved for Toronto, and I'm not giving Philly the satisfaction.

The goalie who did nothing wrong

Woll has started twice and lost twice in overtime with a .929 save percentage, which is a man doing his job professionally while the rest of the organization is on an extended coffee break. Dan Vladar is 0-2 with an .863, and he took the Pittsburgh game, so honestly he can have a pass on that one too.

Buddy, I'm begging you, Philly, put somebody in front of Woll before he files for overtime pay.

Kept off the sheet

  • Cam York: 22.7 minutes a night, zero points in four games. That's a full-time job with no paycheck.
  • Jamie Drysdale: 20.2 minutes a night, zero points and one shot on goal in four games. One. I've had more shots at a wedding.

The power play

Zero-for-11. The Flyers have had 11 power plays and scored on none of them, by our count. At some point the opposition is just letting them have the extra skater out of politeness, like holding a door for somebody carrying groceries.

Not a real award

The Gritty Memorial Trophy for Most Chaos With the Least Hockey goes to the Philadelphia Flyers, outscored 17-5 and outshot by 81 in four games. The mascot is having a better season, and he doesn't have skates.

The concession

Yes, it's four games. I'm still writing it down. Collecting two overtime points with those shot totals is basically shoplifting, and eventually somebody checks the security footage.

Bruins tax: in Boston, a 0-2-2 start gets you a three-hour emergency call-in show and somebody's uncle demanding a trade for the entire defense. In Philadelphia it gets you an orange mascot with a beard. Advantage Philly, I guess.

I said what I said.
