Florida Panthers injury update: Brad Marchand faces October rehab

MacKenzie Entwistle moves onto injured reserve, while Jonah Gadjovich remains sidelined indefinitely following upper-body surgery as forward depth gets tested.

MacKenzie Entwistle’s move to injured reserve is the latest change, but Brad Marchand’s expected October absence remains Florida’s biggest lineup problem. The Panthers should build their next-game combinations around the available forwards, not treat these openings as spots to keep warm.

Status board

  • MacKenzie Entwistle (RW) — Injured Reserve — Injury: Undisclosed — Timeline: estimated return Oct 9
  • Jonah Gadjovich (LW) — Injured Reserve — Injury: Upper Body, Surgery — Timeline: estimated return Oct 16
  • Brad Marchand (LW) — Injured Reserve — Injury: Lower Body — Timeline: estimated return Nov 1

What changed this week

  • Entwistle’s September 29 update placed him on injured reserve. There’s no announced return date, so he shouldn’t factor into the next-game lineup plan.

Lineup impact

Lineup watch: As of October 1, Florida has two left wings and a right wing on injured reserve. Marchand’s absence carries the biggest offensive cost, but Gadjovich and Entwistle being unavailable also cuts into the options further down the lineup. This isn’t just a first-lineup-card problem.

Marchand’s October rehab window isn’t a promised November return date. Gadjovich remains out indefinitely, and Entwistle has no announced timeline. Florida needs workable combinations now, rather than a plan built around a guessed return.

For the next game, I’d prioritize clean wall exits and reliable puck support over chasing a splashy replacement. Missing Marchand doesn’t mean another winger must try to become Marchand. It means the available forwards need to give each other shorter passes and fewer stranded possessions.

The useful audition isn’t simply who scores. It’s who can keep a shift moving when the first option disappears.

Pabs’ read: Give the next opportunity to the winger who helps his line exit cleanly, not just the one with the prettiest finish.
