Bobrovsky makes his Maple Leafs debut: 'That''s the hockey life'
The two-time Vezina winner and back-to-back Cup champion opened Toronto's preseason against Montreal, five days before turning 38.
Sergei Bobrovsky made his first appearance for the Toronto Maple Leafs in their preseason opener against Montreal at Scotiabank Arena on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Bobrovsky signed a three-year, $21 million contract ($7 million AAV) with Toronto on July 1 as an unrestricted free agent after seven seasons in Florida, where he won the Stanley Cup in 2024 and 2025. He turned 38 the day after the game.
"It's another opportunity," Bobrovsky said. "That's the hockey life. I'm here and I'm excited to be here."
Leafs captain Auston Matthews, who spent years trying to solve him, was blunt about the change: "It's an absolute treat, I'm not going to lie."
Bobrovsky sits seventh all-time in wins among NHL goalies with 456 — four behind Henrik Lundqvist and 34 from passing Roberto Luongo for fourth — and 17th all-time in games played with 806. Toronto finished last in the Atlantic Division and 15th in the Eastern Conference last season.
